A Guide to Understanding Measurements
This article discusses the challenges of determining the right size when ordering from Chinese websites like Taobao, where returning items is often not an option. It provides examples of measurement tables commonly used by sellers, along with translations of key sizing terms (e.g., bust, shoulder, waist). The guide also suggests how to request size information from sellers or agents to ensure a better fit and outlines steps for handling returns if necessary.

One of the biggest challenges when ordering from China is determining the right size for your items. Unlike many online retailers where you can easily return shoes that don’t fit or a shirt that’s too big, Taobao and similar Chinese websites often don’t offer the same level of flexibility for returns.

To help you estimate the appropriate size (and trust me, sizing can vary significantly from one supplier to another), refer to the tables below. Please note that these are not standard sizes but serve as an example of what a measurement table might look like in Chinese characters. I’ve also included translations of common terms you might encounter in the product details section:

  • 胸围 => Bust
  • 肩宽 => Shoulder
  • 衣长 => Length
  • 袖长 => Sleeve
  • 腰围 => Waist
  • 裤长 => Inside Length

If the measurement table is not provided in the product details, don’t worry. I’ll explain how you can ask the seller for this information or how you can request your shopping agent to measure the item for you. In case the item still doesn’t fit, your agent may also assist with returning it if necessary.

By understanding these key measurements and following the translations above, you’ll be better equipped to select the right size and confidently proceed with your purchase.
